The door is open

Follow along, and help it get there

LOOM Engine is being built in the open about what it is: the measurements are written down, the defects are registered, and the roadmap says what is missing. Here is how to watch it happen, and where you will be able to carry a piece of it.

Today

There is no download yet, and this page will not pretend

The game is pre-release. The build already travels as a plain folder between private playtesters, and installers are on the plan for release. When there is a public download, it will be on the front page the same day, because a project that hides its own front page is not one to trust with your campaigns.

How the game travels today

There is no installer yet. The build moves as a folder: unzip, read the note, run Start LOOM. The engine runs beside the client on your machine, your campaigns live in your user directory, and swapping in a newer build leaves them alone.

The build is unsigned, so Windows asks for one extra click of trust on first run. Signing and installers are on the plan, and they need the owner's own certificates.

What your money would fund

A Kickstarter is being prepared, not launched. The engine is ahead of the art, and the campaign funds exactly the gap between here and a beta: the remaining DM portraits, a soundscape for every room, real voices, and the unglamorous work of signing and installers.

It is not live. No amounts on this site are real. The day the campaign opens, this page says so and links it; until then, treat any page that claims otherwise as having drifted from the truth.

What a playtest looks like

How the game gets tested, and how you will fit

Every feature claim on this site was earned by play: scripted campaigns, agent-played campaigns, and evenings with an actual person at the table. When the beta opens, that last category is the one that grows.

Play campaigns, break things

The most useful thing a playtester does is get attached to a character and then get surprised. Findings from live play have caught things no test could: repeated sentences, items filed under the wrong person, a typo becoming a permanent character, quests with no sense of scale.

Bring a book

Once the review screen ships, the best gift the ingestion pipeline can get is a rulebook its readers have never seen, and the honest transcript of where its proposal was wrong. Every accepted section cites the page it came from.

Tell the truth

The project's working rule is that a finding that is not written down did not happen, and a compliment that says only "it was fun" cannot fix anything. The playtesters this project listens to are the ones who say exactly where it went wrong.

Stay in touch

Where to watch

No mailing list exists yet, and none is being pretended at. When there is news worth your address, there will be a way to give it, and it will be honest about what it stores.

The site is the devlog, for now

New pages, new measurements and the Kickstarter announcement all land here first. This site serves no cookies, runs no analytics and follows no one home. Bookmark it, come back when the candle moves, and bring a character with a grudge.
